2013 Gala: Taconic Opera Takes a Walk Down the Yellow Brick Road

Taconic Opera, now in its sixteenth Season in Westchester, will present an unusual fundraiser in White Plains. Not only will the presentation be unique, but so will the venue and location. After having expanded its performances to White Plains a few years ago, the company is ready to move its annual fundraiser into Westchester’s central city. The company will hold its annual gala at the CV Rich Mansion right in downtown White Plains.

The gala’s theme is “The Yellow Brick Road.” Will the company depart from singing opera at the event and share with us something sung by Judy Garland? “That will be a wonderful surprise,” says General Director, Dan Montez. “This gala will be special and feature a story line throughout the evening that will take us all down that memorable road to our own Emerald City.” The company promises the extremes of entertainment on this journey from the hilarious to the dramatic. The event will feature a sumptuous meal, entertainment from its top operatic artists, and an opportunity to honor some important individuals who have done so much to support the arts in the community.

Attendance at the event will be by donation. Gold $250; Silver, $200; and Bronze $150. Dan Montez declares, “Where else can you see a show, have an amazing dinner and park for free?” Tickets and reservations for the event can be arranged online or by calling (855)88-OPERA. The excitement begins on Thursday, September 12, with hors d’oeuvres served at 7:00 pm. The CV Rich Mansion is located at 305 Ridgeway in White Plains. Bible Study at Lyall Memorial Federated
Focuses On Living Out the Gospel

Millbrook—September might mean back-to-school for Millbrook’s children and teens, but it is also adults who are being invited to learn—about God’s Word, that is. Lyall Memorial Federated Church, located at 30 Maple Avenue in the village of Millbrook, opens its doors to for an exciting eight-week Bible study that focuses on how to live out the Gospel in our homes, schools, offices, community and world. The study, “Gospel in Life: Grace Changes Everything,” authored by Rev. Timothy Keller, pastor of Manhattan’s Redeemer Church, features thought-provoking discussions and scripture. Study books are available to those who are interested in delving more deeply.
Lyall Memorial Federated Church’s Bible studies will be held on Thursdays, beginning September 12. Two sessions are offered, one in the afternoon running from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and an evening session from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Each study will open with prayers for the Millbrook community and a time of quiet reflection to center on God and to “be still before God.”
“I am excited about this study because it is one thing to learn scripture and to know it, but how do you let God’s Word lead you into action? How do we become ‘doers’ of the Word and not just ‘hearers’? And I am not talking about just doing good works. I am more interested in how God transforms our hearts, leading us to truly become servants to one another filled with care and compassion,” said The Reverend Donna Frischknecht-Jackson, who was called to Lyall Memorial Federated Church as its new pastor this past July.
For more information on the study or on Lyall Memorial Federated Church’s music ministry, Food Pantry, children’s and youth offerings, contact the church office at 677-3485, or email Pastor Donna at pastordonna1@gmail.com. Lyall Memorial Federated Church worships on Sundays starting at 10:25 a.m.
