Financing a home purchase or refinancing a current mortgage can be an overwhelming process. Closing costs, credit ratings and creating a household budget that makes home ownership possible can be challenging.  Do you already own a home, and are considering a home equity loan or refinancing through the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP)?  In this free, two-part education program – “The Homebuyer and Homeowner Education Seminar” – these topics are presented in a clear and easy way that takes the mystery out of financing or refinancing a home.

This is a two-part program, and will be held on Wednesday, November 13 (Part 1) and Wednesday, November 20 (Part 2) from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County’s Education Center, located at 232 Plaza Road in Kingston, New York. To register for the program, please call Arthur Zaczkiewicz at 845-340-3990 ext. 334, or register via email at aaz25@cornell.edu.

The program covers subjects such as: credit reports and maintaining credit; household budget and its role in home ownership; debt-to-income ratios; mortgage insurance; adjustable rate mortgages versus fixed-rate mortgages; refinancing requirements; prequalifying for a loan; when a home equity loan is the answer; or when HARP is your best solution. These and other topics will be discussed.

The program is presented by Don Doyle, a community educator with over 40 years of experience in banking, personal finance and financial education for individuals and groups.
