A Walk for Water is an opportunity to raise awareness and funds to help support water purification systems for developing countries. All proceeds will be going to Water Mission of Charleston, SC.
Most Americans are blessed to have ready access to clean water for drinking and bathing. However, in much of the developing world, the average distance to gather a bucket of water is 3.5 miles and this water may not be clean by our standards. Often a 5 gallon bucket is used. At over 8 lbs a gallon that means over 40 lbs that needs to be lifted and carried each day. Without ready access to clean drinking water over 2,300 people die each day from water-related diseases. In addition, 35% of the global population live without adequate sanitation.
Churches, clubs, teams, families, or individuals are invited to join together and carry a bucket/jug of water for a one mile walk. You may bring your own bucket or use one provided. Creating teams from your organization or family is a fun way to work together and see how much you, as a group, can raise.
People are asked to donate $10 or $25 for a family. Additional sponsorship is welcome and encouraged. Give on-line by going to watermission.org and clicking on Hudson Valley Walk for Water or you may give by check or cash. Checks should be made out to Water Mission with a note for Hudson Valley Walk for Water. If you would like this to be a tax deduction please fill out the information on the donation form.
What to bring: Dress for the weather and bring a bucket or jug. Remember 1 gallon of water weighs over 8 lbs.
